Apps stopped — balance

Last updated

Symptom

All of your applications have stopped, and starting them fails or they stop again immediately. You've received a notification, in the panel and by email.

What happened

Your account balance ran out. Allocated CPU, RAM, and disk draw from your balance per minute, and when there's nothing left to draw from, applications are stopped.

This is account-wide — it isn't specific to the app that used the most.

Fix it

  1. Top up from the Balance section of the panel.
  2. Start your applications again.

Nothing was lost. Volumes, configuration, environment variables and ports are all intact — stopping is not deleting.

Stop it happening again

  • Keep an eye on the balance relative to what you allocate. Because billing is on allocated resources rather than usage, your monthly draw is predictable — an idle app costs the same as a busy one at the same preset.
  • Lower presets you raised temporarily. A preset bumped while debugging keeps costing until you lower it again.
  • Check your account email is one you read. Notifications go there, and it's the warning you get.
  • Consider whether some apps should be smaller. Right-sizing is the cheapest change available.

Not the same as a disk limit

If your apps stopped and your balance is fine, check disk instead. Exceeding your account's total volume size also stops every app, and it stays that way until you free space rather than until you pay. See Over limits.
