Start or restart is blocked
Last updated
Symptom
Starting an app fails with a message about the start being restricted, rather than the app starting and then failing.
What it means
The application has been administratively restricted from starting. This is a deliberate block rather than a fault — it isn't something a retry, a redeploy, or a configuration change will clear.
What to do
Contact support with your application ID. Include it in the message — it's the fastest way to get a specific answer rather than a clarifying question.
Check it's actually this
The message is specific, so if you're seeing something else, look elsewhere first:
| What you see | Where to look |
|---|---|
| An error about resources or limits | Over limits |
| All your apps stopped together | Balance, or the disk limit |
| The app starts and then exits | Common issues — check the exit code |
| The app was stopped and won't stay running | A crash loop, not a restriction |
The distinction that matters: a restriction stops the app from starting at all, with an explicit message. A crash lets it start and then exits, which shows an exit code in the app's Events.
